October 21, 2025

The RevMan 9.13.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. There is a new Flexible review type for reviews with a mixed question type:
    1. It supports pairwise meta-analysis.
    2. It has a flexible heading structure.
    3. Study characteristics and risk of bias items can be configured by the user.
  2. You can no longer add new reviews of the type Rapid
    1. Cochrane rapid reviews not yet submitted by 17 November will either be converted to the intervention review type or to the new flexible review type. Read more about the review approach.
  3. Improvements to PICOtron to support the generation of Cochrane Clinical Answers. (Cochrane only)

Bugs

  1. Resolved error preventing GRADEpro from syncing with RevMan when the SoF table included the ampersand character. (Cochrane only)
  2. Resolved issue affecting the correct display of the left-hand navigation menu in the RevMan portfolio.
  3. Comments are removed from historical versions of reviews in focused review format to avoid issues for authors. (Cochrane only)

RevMan 9.12.2 (hotfix)

  1. Fixed the issue that removed the highlight from highlighted text when updating a link in it.
  2. Updated wording to improve misleading guidance about study characteristics and risk of bias setup.
  3. Dynamic analysis results are correctly updated when covariate values are defined or edited.
  4. Clean up of the UserLookupService cache.
  5. Marking warnings as considered doesn’t reload validation to prevent performance issues.
  6. Studies disappear when removed from tests in the methodological quality section in DTA reviews.
  7. Resolved validation time-out for a big DTA review.

The RevMan 9.12.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. Improvements to the dynamic analysis results:
    1. A warning is displayed next to the result when the result has changed, allowing authors to check whether the surrounding text needs editing.
    2. The results use mathematical negative signs instead of hyphens for negative numbers.
    3. The results use commas to separate thousands in numbers with five or more digits.
  2. A ‘copy’ icon allows to quickly and easily copy the review title from the review page in RevMan and the portfolio page.
  3. The word count for the Abstract and Plain Language Summary is displayed in each section in both default and full-text view.
  4. Manual-input analyses: Group and graph labels are editable in a separate pop-up window that is accessible from the analysis group editor screen.
  5. Links to the old Cochrane website have been updated to redirect to the new website.
  6. CCA tool: Several upgrades have been made (Cochrane only):
    1. Updated text for the quantitative results in the CCA files.
    2. Inclusion of forest plot SVGs in the CCA package.

  3. Fixed an issue to prevent warnings marked as considered from creating a record with ‘null’ type.
  4. Reinstated prompt to notify users that they need an individual subscription if they have been invited to collaborate on another individual's review.
  5. SROC plot could not be loaded.

The RevMan 9.11.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. PICOtron has been replaced with a new Portfolio option for downloading clinical answers available to users with Cochrane Portfolio access. This removes a dependency on the RM5 format. (Cochrane only)
  2. Continuous outcomes with a mean that are missing from the review criteria section upon study data import can now be added straight from the import validation screen.
  3. The direction of the outcome can be selected when adding an outcome as part of adding a new study result.
  4. Risk of bias import shows an error when the import file is missing one or more of the risk of bias domains defined in the review criteria section.
  5. Formatting is retained for analysis names, subgroup names and group labels on export.
  6. Technical: Text sections missing from the test and training environments after the data refresh have been aligned with the content in the production environment.

Bugs

  1. All stack traces for errors are logged to facilitate troubleshooting of support cases.
  2. Performance has been improved to enable large DTA reviews to load within an acceptable time.
  3. Fixed an error that prevented reviews from moving to the Complete tab of the Portfolio when setting the project status to ‘never assess’.
  4. Resolved timeout issue to ensure that soft-deleted practice reviews are correctly hard deleted.

The RevMan 9.9.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements

  1. You can now mark warnings as considered if they are not relevant for your review, see the updated KB article for guidance.
  2. It's now a breeze to change the order of your analyses as you can drag and drop analyses within and between analysis groups. Analysis groups can also be re-ordered using drag and drop.
  3. We've substantially reduced the time it takes to create a new review in the Cochrane organization.
  4. The text editor has been updated to a newer version of CKEditor 5 leading to smaller performance improvements.

Bugs

  1. We've fixed several issues with dialogs in units page including ensuring that you don't need to refresh to see new reviews created.
  2. We've ensured deletion of reviews for individuals with expired subscriptions does not happen if you have renewed your subscription.
  3. Control characters (with characters codes < 32) are now filtered out from pasted content and no error is displayed.
  4. Issues with adding comments on table heading have been resolved (comments feature available on request, contact support@cochrane.org) 
  5. It's now possible to reply to comments from other text sections without blocking editing of the text section (comments feature available on request, contact support@cochrane.org)

The RevMan 9.8.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements

  1. Unit leads now have the ability to search for reviews within any category of a portfolio.
  2. Downloading flow diagrams as SVG is now available. This also includes a general improvement to the file names of figure downloads to help identification of the files.
  3. Technical: Update PrimeNG package to latest version.

The RevMan 9.6.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. Forest plots display intervention labels by default based on Experimental/Control interventions and intervention groups as well as the direction of the outcome.
  2. The total number of participants can be entered for each arm in study-centric contrast data results.
  3. The heterogeneity estimator and CI method include REML and HSKJ to investigate sensitivity in random-effects analyses.

  1. Dynamic analysis results using the Peto method now correctly display "Peto OR" after updating the analysis.
  2. Headings in the full text view (FRF only) are correctly greyed out when the review is inactive.
  3. Forest plot for an automatic analysis updates and renders correctly after changing the data type from the analysis Options tab.
  4. Superscript and subscript formatting in analysis and subgroup names is retained in the dynamic analysis results that are inserted in the main text.

The RevMan 9.4.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements

  1. New in-text commenting system to improve the process of editing the review text. This new editor toolbar option is currently available on demand by contacting support@cochrane.org. 
  2. EM submission file errors are now sent directly to the Support team instead of appearing in the Failed Notification Report. (Cochrane only).
  3. System administrators can enable banners and set messages in RevMan and RevMan Portfolio to increase user awareness and adoption of new features.

The RevMan 9.3.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements

  1. Study-centric data: Improved study data import user experience with user-friendly error messages and the ‘Import’ button being disabled during processing to prevent duplicate action.  
  2. In the project management tool, completing or deleting the last task now automatically prompts milestone completion. 
  3. System administrators can remove rows from the decision log to fix errors. 
  4. EM rescinded decisions are supported and tracked in the decision log. (Cochrane only)

  1. The automatic generation of Risk of bias 2 supplementary material has been fixed to select and include the correct results for assessments of automatic analyses using contrast- and arm-level data. 
  2. The left-hand navigation scrollbar remains visible and functional after returning to the review Dashboard. 
  3. Totals in sensitivity analyses now update correctly in automatic analyses with subgroups.

May 15, 2025 

The RevMan 9.2.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements   

  1. The maximum number of open invitations allowed at any one time for a given review has been raised from 10 to 20. 
  2. The search date is now displayed in UTC. 
  3. Date editing of protocol/review first published dates has been improved for system administrators and Cochrane Support (Cochrane only). 
  4. Editorial Manager contributions are updated in CRM when all the required reviews are completed (Cochrane only). 
  5. Performance improvements: The number of actions requiring a service account token has been reduced. 
  6. Technical: the number of requests made when viewing tables has been reduced.

  1. Issues affecting the expected deletion of content after subscription expiration and the end of the grace period has been fixed.

  1. Users can add and insert additional/other references in one go with the DOI lookup from Crossref. This greatly speeds up the workflow of citing in for example the Background and Discussion section.

  1. When there is only 1 result in a subgroup and the HKSJ method is selected, Z test value is presented for the subgroup test for overall effect instead of T test value.
  2. The track change on/off setting now persists when navigating between views.
  3. html entities for downloaded PNG are now rendered correctly.
  4. Subgroups data row results in CSV export are now in the same order as displayed in the forest plot.
  5. Test for subgroup differences should not be shown without subgroups.

The RevMan 8.20.0 release includes the following changes:   

New features and improvements

  1. Introducing more granular permissions to reduce number of people with org admin permission in RevMan in the Cochrane organization:
    1. Read access to Cochrane Portfolio: this permission means that the user can search for any review in the Cochrane organization and open them to view. It is not possible to edit any content related to the review and none of the portfolio features are available. It is also not possible to create or delete reviews.
    2. Write access to Cochrane Portfolio: this permission means that the user can search for any review in the Cochrane organization and open them to edit if there is an open project for the review. It is not possible to create or delete reviews and none of the portfolio features are available.
    3. Editor: this permission means that the user can search for any review in the Cochrane organization and open them to edit if there is an open project for the review and the review is in editorial phase and view if the review is in authoring phase, see more info on editorial lock. It is not possible to create or delete reviews and none of the portfolio features are available.
  2. The milestones and task panel on Dashboard will now be collapsed by default and instead it will either display when there are overdue or due tasks and the milestone summary has been moved to the panel header so it can always be seen.

Bug fixes

  1. Fixed automatic renumbering of figures when a connected analysis is deleted.
  2. Fixed default Confidence Interval (CI) to 95% CI when using the calculator in GIV analyses.
  3. Fixed an issue preventing the correct transfer of combined sample sizes from multiple arms from the calculator to the forest plot in GIV analyses.

The RevMan 8.17.0  release includes the following changes: 

New features and improvements 

  1. Study-centric data: Include figure number in dynamic analysis results and stop supporting inclusion of analysis number. 
  2. Disabled validation warnings and User Interface (UI) messages with recommendations for new random effects methods as these are not yet mandatory for use in Cochrane reviews.

The RevMan 8.16.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. Changes to permission model to reduce the total number of roles in Keycloak in order to improve performance. 
  2. Organization settings now include the option to allow unit leads to delete reviews in their organizational unit(s).
  3. Improved handling of EM invitation events to ensure that after daily batch processing of invitation events:
    1. The 'submission due' chip is displayed correctly on the review dashboard and the review is unlocked when there is an open invitation to submit.
    2. The 'submission due' chip is updated when there are changes to the submission due date in Editorial Manager.
    3. The review is locked when the authors submit the manuscript to Central Editorial Service or when the invitation is closed.

Bug fixes

  1. Fixed an issue where changing study grouping settings in an analysis after initial setup could cause the rob table information to be incorrectly/partially populated and displayed in the supplementary material.

The RevMan 8.15.0 release includes the following changes:

New features and improvements

  1. Introduced new random effects methods in RevMan:
    1. Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML): This method offers a more reliable estimation of heterogeneity variance.
    2. Confidence interval for heterogeneity variance: The use of Q-profile statistics helps convey the uncertainty in the estimate and provides an indication as to whether there truly is heterogeneity.
    3. Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman (HKSJ) method: Designed to deliver more accurate confidence intervals for the summary effect.
    4. Prediction intervals: Utilizes t-distribution or normal distribution to offer clearer insights into review findings.
  2. Integrated guidance for study-centric data: The pop-up containing information about study-centric data has been replaced with contextual guidance provided through clickable information 'i' icons in the 'Review criteria' and 'Add analysis' screens.

New features and improvements

  1. Managing roles on the review as a unit lead or organization administrator is now easier:
    1. Author support role can be managed to grant access to edit the review without changing the author byline.
    2. One dialog for related actions: adding, managing invitations, removing, changing contact person and moving between author and author support.
    3. Multiple invitations can be sent swiftly.
    4. You will have immediate feedback when a user is added or invited, to reassure that the operation was successful.
  2. A P or R icon is displayed next to each review to indicate either the Protocol or the Review/Update stage. Icons are displayed in the RevMan Portfolio as well as on the My reviews page.

Bug fixes

  1. Subscript and superscript nesting is prevented in text sections to avoid validation errors when processing the files for publication.
