Improve study-data import

Owner: Rebecka Hall

What business value does this roadmap item create? / Which problem is this roadmap item trying to solve?

Strategic fit

Link to strategy: GOAL 1 Streamlining production of reviews and simplifying editorial systems and processes

Future of review production project: Retire RevMan 5 (promoting RevMan Web as better than RevMan 5)

Hypothesis

Including RIS import and support for formatting will significantly improve the experience for authors transferring data from Covidence to RevMan.

Success measure

Full import workflow ready to be launched before April 2023.

3 author teams sign off on significantly improved user experience for transferring extracted data from Covidence to RevMan Web.

Which assumptions are made in relation to the value?

Covidence support for contrast data and distinction of arm data will increase use of Covidence by Cochrane authors and have a significant impact on shortening the review process.

What are the dependencies for full-filling the business value?

Covidence implement support for contrast data and export to CSV and RIS that works with study data import in RevMan (tick)

For COULD HAVEs: export to CSV in place (tick)

What are the risks related to this roadmap item?

CSV import is rejected because the process is too cumbersome e.g.

  • need to set up review level concepts in RevMan Web
  • several files to download and upload
  • Edits to files exported may result in incompatible data
  • requirement to use study-centric data slows uptake and value delivery

What is included in the scope of this solution?

MUST HAVE

  • Improve RIS import and include in study import (import from file option only)
  • Import/export review level concepts
    • introduce separate file for concepts
    • Remember to test scenario for covariate category limit implemented in RMW-3137 - Getting issue details... STATUS
  • Infer review level concepts from data if they are not in the file
    • when creating JSON or when importing?

SHOULD HAVE

  • Expand import to include all categories of studies (except for pending classification?)

How much time do we estimate to implement this epic?

Small = within a sprint = within 2 weeks

This is a guesstimate made by the Review Production Team based on known information about the roadmap item and the capacity of the team at the time of estimation (2023-01-26).
