Submit a version to Editorial Manager
Are you ready to submit? Make sure you have all the documents you need, including the pre-submission checklist and the conflict of interests forms.
To be able to submit to Editorial Manager, authors must:
- Make sure that your primary email address in your Cochrane Account and in Editorial Manager is the same.
- Await an email invitation to submit.
- Download your submission files from RevMan.
- Upload the PDF submission file and the ZIP file of supplementary materials to Editorial Manager. When you are ready, follow the instructions to complete the submission process in Editorial Manager.
Please note:
- Uploading your submission files to Editorial Manager will move the review to Editorial Phase (authors can no longer edit).
- All tracked changes are automatically resolved in the submission PDF manuscript. Yellow highlighting and comments will also be removed. Tracked changes, comments and highlighting will remain visible in the current version in RevMan.
Check your primary email address
Ensuring that the primary email address associated with your Cochrane account is the same as the one used in your Editorial Manager account helps to streamline the submission process.
Check your Cochrane Account email
- In RevMan, open your review.
- From the left-hand menu, select About this review, then Authors to locate your primary email address.
- If you need to update it, go to: https://account.cochrane.org/profile
Check your Editorial Manager email
- Log in to Editorial Manager.
- From the Author Main menu, click your name in the top-right corner to open the dropdown menu, then select Update my information.
- In the Personal information section of your account, ensure that your email address matches the one in your Cochrane Account.
Don't forget to save your changes!
Download submission files
- Go to the RevMan dashboard of your review.
- Confirm you are happy with the current version, and that it meets editorial guidelines.
- Have you followed our author guidelines?
- Resolve all errors in the validation report before submitting. You won't be able to download submission files if you haven't addressed all the errors first.
- Resolve all comments before downloading submission files. Active comments will be archived upon downloading submission files from RevMan, and will become available in the 'Comments archive' section.
- Click Submit current version in the Actions menu on the review dashboard.
Note: MacOS users will need to use a browser other than Safari (e.g. Chrome/Firefox) to download submission files.
- On the 'Submit current version' pop-up window:
- Confirm that you have an open invitation to submit to Editorial Manager.
- Confirm that the draft is ready for submission.
- Confirm that you understand that any changes made to the review after submission will not be considered until the next submission.
- Add a relevant version description e.g. 'For submission to Editorial Manager'.
The button to download submission files will only become available when all the checkboxes have been ticked. Then, click Download submission files. This may take several minutes depending on the review size.
A PDF and a zip file will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder of your computer.
- Each file name includes unique identifiers for your submission. Any changes will create technical errors with processing your submission. DO NOT edit or overwrite the automatically-generated file name of both your submission files.
- Only files generated using the 'Submit current version' function will be accepted. DO NOT use the 'Export' function to generate and submit the PDF article and supplementary materials.
Log in to Editorial Manager to upload the PDF submission file and the zip file of supplementary materials.
