Question 1

Searching for the parent (broader, higher level) term finds both broad and narrow terms in databases such as Medline. Which one should we use in our tools?

Response

From the searcher's perspective it's best to look for the parent & that will bring up child terms as well. Our tools are built to work that way.

Question 2

What if a searcher doesn't know about the parent and just picks a child? This will miss any term annotated with only the parent.

Response

in cases where we aren't sure if the parent or child is a better term, we will make the annotation more discoverable by annotating with the child term.
