How to understand and manage versions of the review

All changes you make to your review in RevMan Web are automatically and continuously saved in Revman Web. You are always viewing the latest version. There is no need to click a ‘Save’ button to save changes.

  • Tag a version of the review to note changes.
  • Check the review in to Archie to store a version on the Archie History

1. History panel on the Dashboard

The History panel on the RevMan Web dashboard allows you to see the version history of tagged or stored versions of your review.

The version number column on the left hand side keeps track of the versions. A higher number means a more recent version.

The version's overall publication status - whether the version is a draft, or has been published – is indicated by the circle icons. Draft versions have an open blue circle and published versions have a full black circle. You can also see by whom and when the version was tagged or checked in. The final column to the right provides a short description, which is added when tagging or checking in a version (see below).

The History panel shows whether the version is stored in RevMan Web only (see Tag a version of your review) or in both RevMan Web and Archie. To send a version in Archie, check in to Archie.

2. Tag a version of your review

All changes you make to your review in RevMan Web are automatically and continuously saved. There is no need to click any ‘Save’ button.

You may wish to 'tag' a specific version; for example, when you finish an editing session or make substantial changes to your review. This can help you and your co-authors keep track of what has been done, by whom and when.

Click the ‘Tag Current Version’ button and enter a brief description of the version, which will then appear in the History feature on the Dashboard.

Tagged versions of a review appear on the review History in RevMan Web only. To generate a version of the review that will be visible on the History tab of the review properties in Archie, you need to check in to Archie (see below).

3. Check in a version of your review to Archie

Check your review in to Archie to send a version of the review to the Archie History. You can choose whether or not to submit your review for editorial approval when checking in.

Click the 'Check in to Archie’ button from the review History on the dashboard and enter a brief description of the version.

Send a version of the review in the Archie to:

  • compare versions
  • allow editorial staff to view the progress of your review in Archie

Checked-in versions of a review appear both on the review History in RevMan Web and on the History tab of the review properties in Archie.
