Advanced features

There are currently three advanced features available for use in RevMan:

All new protocols created from 25 April 2023 have study centric data management enabled. Find out more.

When you enable these features, a copy of your review will be tagged in the History as it were before the feature was enabled. For any questions about enabling advanced features, please email support@cochrane.org

Study-centric data

Study-centric data management facilitates better defined and more focused reviews, with clearer review criteria and clearer criteria for the planned syntheses.

Authors invest more time earlier in the review process to streamline the latter analyses stages.

  • Once the Study-centric data feature is enabled, it is not possible to disable it except to revert to a version of the review prior to enabling of the feature.
  • Covidence files can now be imported to RevMan if the Study-centric data feature is enabled.

Available for Cochrane and non-Cochrane reviews.

It can be enabled for:

  • Intervention reviews
  • Flexible (rapid) reviews

Risk of Bias 2

RoB 2 is an updated version of the Cochrane risk of bias tool. The main differences are: each domain has a set of questions to help you decide if there is bias or not; you assess bias for specific results within an RCT, rather than for the RCT as a whole; algorithms embedded in the tool propose judgements; there is an overall bias decided across all the domains for each result.

Managing Editors; Cochrane Support Team; RevMan Subscribers

  • For review updates that have switched to RoB 2 from RoB 1, all risk of bias data from the previous version will be lost when RoB 2 is enabled. If authors need to download or make a copy, ensure they do it before RoB 2 is enabled.
  • Once the RoB2 feature is enabled, it is not possible to disable it except to revert to a version of the review prior to enabling of the features. However, when reverting to a version prior to enabling RoB 2, RoB 1 data will not be recovered

Available for Cochrane and non-Cochrane reviews.

It can be enabled for intervention reviews only.

GRADEpro Guideline Development Tool (GDT)

GRADEpro GDT creates Summary of Findings (SoF) tables in Cochrane systematic reviews, summarising and presenting information for healthcare-decision making.

You can import results of statistical analyses from RevMan and export a SoF table into the RevMan file.

Currently the GRADEpro integration is not available for non-Cochrane reviews. However, RevMan subscribers that have their own GRADEpro subscription will be able to export data from RevMan and import into GRADEpro.

Managing Editors; Cochrane Support Team

  • Once the GRADEpro integration feature is enabled, GRADEPro Summary of findings tables MUST be edited within GRADEpro (not RevMan).
  • You can disable the GRADEpro integration at any time, if you have no linked tables.
  • If you have linked tables, Cochrane authors and staff should contact Cochrane Support for advice before disabling.

Available for Cochrane reviews only.

It can be enabled for:

  • Intervention reviews
  • Methodology reviews
  • Flexible reviews (all types)

Steps to enable advanced features

You can see which advanced features are enabled for your review on the review Dashboard.

To enable advanced features, click on the "Enable advanced features" button on the Actions section of the Dashboard.

A pop-up will open, asking which advanced feature you would like to enable. Select the applicable feature and click OK.

A confirmation box will pop up. Click OK, continue or Cancel as applicable.

The Review dashboard will reload after a few seconds, showing you that the Advanced features have been enabled.

You can now use the features in RevMan. For more details on how to do so, please visit the corresponding page: Risk of Bias 2 and GRADEPro GDT.
