Within each Network, the individual CRG's Co-ordinating Editor or nominated deputy must approve each Cochrane Review or protocol of a Cochrane Review before it can proceed for publication in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Approval is also required by the Cochrane Diagnostic Test Accuracy Editorial Team for Diagnostic Test Accuracy Cochrane Reviews or protocols for Cochrane Reviews.

The Network Senior Editors (or CRG Co-ordinating Editors within the Network) have the right to transfer editorial responsibility to another Cochrane Review Group; and to withdraw the review if it does not meet the standards of the CRG and/or Cochrane.

Cochrane Reviews are prepared by Cochrane Review Groups, which are led by one or more Co-ordinating Editors. Cochrane Review Groups are grouped in Networks and editorial responsibility rests with the Network Senior Editor. The Network Senior Editors report to the Editor in Chief who oversees all Cochrane Library content, including Cochrane Reviews published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.

The Editor in Chief is responsible for the Editorials and oversees the preparation of the Supplements.
