Translator agreement

All translators of Cochrane content (including, but and conditions. Cochrane content includes, but is not limited to, all types of Cochrane Reviews and protocols for Cochrane Reviews, Cochrane Podcasts, content on Cochrane.org, blogshots of Cochrane Reviews and special collections of Cochrane Reviews) agree to the following:, editorials, special collections and podcasts of the Cochrane Library, Cochrane training materials, Cochrane methods guidance, and other content of the Cochrane Library and cochrane.org.
- Cochrane content should be translated accurately and with care.
- Translators should use clear, plain and simple language so that readers can understand their translations.
- Translators guarantee that their translations are original (their own work).
- Translators agree to use and adopt Cochrane and Cochrane Group translation guidance, standard processes, training materials and software.
- Translations will be reviewed and may be modified as part of Cochrane’s quality assurance processes.
- Cochrane and Cochrane Groups will use reasonable efforts to acknowledge translators by name with the published translation. Translators can choose not to be named.
- Translators can reject any translation work that Cochrane or any Cochrane Group offers to them. Cochrane or any Cochrane Groups are also not obliged to offer translation work to translators.
- Unless otherwise agreed in writing:
- Language: Cochrane content will be translated accurately.
- Originality: Upon submitting each completed translation to Cochrane, the translator represents and warrants that the translation (or any part of it) is original.
- Readability: With reference to the Cochrane Style Manual for Cochrane Reviews, the completed translation should be written in clear, simple language so that it can be understood by the broad and international readership of Cochrane. Simplicity and clarity are vital to readability. Complex or ambiguous expressions should be avoided or reformulated to promote readability.
- Translator status: Cochrane translators are volunteers unless otherwise agreed. Volunteer translators are not employees of Cochrane. Therefore,
- Cochrane translators are volunteers;
- volunteer translators are not employees or consultants of Cochrane; and
- Cochrane will make no payments to volunteer translators.
- Ownership and copyright: Translators (volunteer or otherwise) irrevocably grant and assign to Cochrane all Rights in the completed translations free from any restrictions and limitations. The copyright for all completed translations produced under this agreement shall belong to Cochrane at all times. Cochrane shall exclusively own in perpetuity all now known or hereafter existing rights of every nature worldwide pertaining to such completed translations in, or as part of, any version of Cochrane’s publications.
- Modifications: The completed translations may be edited or modified after submission of the completed translations to Cochrane.
- Attribution: Cochrane will use best efforts to attribute each translation to the translator(s).
- In consideration of their contribution, Cochrane grants translators during the time of their engagement:
- a non-exclusive, royalty-free (fully paid up), non-transferable licence to copy and modify Cochrane content as needed to complete translations only;
- free access to Cochrane Interactive Learning; and
- access to any third-party software licensed by Cochrane for the purpose of translating Cochrane content only.
- Translators hereby assign all existing and future intellectual property rights in their translations to Cochrane.
- Updates: These terms and conditions may be updated from time to time, and translators . Translators with a Cochrane account will be notified of any updates by email.
